We love walking safaris as they offer a completely different perspective to ‘bundu bashing’ in a vehicle. Walking in the bush illuminates the senses, suddenly, instead of peering into an iPhone screen, your senses are on alert as you look for potential delights (and danger).

It can be calming and cathartic too. The soft rustle of grass underneath your feet, the balmy breeze through your clothes, the consistency of walking in the utter wild with just the sun, the sky and the ground beneath your feet.

It’s the small things that count here; the distant pecking of a woodpecker on a tree, the trickle of water, the snorts of Wildebeest, the humming cicadas, the distinct smell of crushed herbs underfoot, the animals that don’t run away in fright. South Luangwa in particular has highly specialised guides who adhere to a strict protocol and have learned from the most prominent pioneers in their field.

Get close to Wild Dogs and Elephants, allow the adrenaline to pump in your awakened body and then reflect around the camp fire at night about your experiences of the day.
