Lovely Laikipia

East Africa remains one of the most popular safari destinations on the planet—raw, cinematic, and endlessly surprising. From the serene plains of the Serengeti National Park to the awesome escarpments of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, this is where nature shows its best. The annual Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebra move in search of greener grazing, is one of the most iconic wildlife spectacles on Earth.

But beyond the classics, East Africa offers rarer, almost mythical encounters. In Laikipia Plateau, sightings of the elusive black leopard—often referred to as “Giza”—have captured global attention. This melanistic leopard, with its ghost-like presence and barely visible rosettes, represents one of Africa’s most extraordinary predator sightings. Unlike typical leopards, black leopards are incredibly rare, making any encounter feel deeply special and almost otherworldly.

Laikipia is so beautiful – it sits on a plateau between Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley, offering a mix of wildlife, community conservancies, and dramatic landscapes. It is also home to the “Samburu Five” (Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk).

Best Time to Visit:

January-March and June-October are generally the driest and best for wildlife viewing and it’s easi;y accessible via light aircraft to local airstrips (like Nanyuki) or by road from Nairobi. The accommodation in the Laikipia region ranges from luxury lodges and tented camps to intimate, community-owned, and family-run guest houses.
