Musekese: River, Hide, and Serendipity

Musekese welcomed us with river light and quiet elegance. That first evening rewarded us with a young male leopard at sunset, followed by a private dinner overlooking Eden Pan.

The next morning took us to a hide nearly an hour away. Roan, hartebeest, warthog, birds, and a solitary hippo drifted through the pan in near silence. Afternoons alternated between boat safaris, crocs, hippos, and five species of kingfisher, and game drives. One evening we dined privately with bush pigs wandering through camp.

A full day in the hide followed, complete with elephants mud bathing and harassing a very unimpressed hippo. Conservation talks grounded the experience, reminding us that protection, research, and community are as vital as sightings. Our final Musekese drive found lions with year old cubs and a hungry lioness heading into the dark.

On departure day, delayed flights and airport hours tested patience, but Mfuwe awaited. We arrived at South Luangwa after dark, greeted by Byron and the promise of wild days ahead.
